Surface was an American soul/funk group, active from 1983 to 1994, and best known for four #1 R&B hits between 1989-91 - "Shower Me with Your Love", "Closer Than Friends", "You Are My Everything" and "The First Time", which was originally recorded in 1986, and was featured on the band's third album 3 Deep in 1991 and was the first single from the album. The song became the group's biggest hit to date. It topped both the R&B and pop charts.
